Land of the Fiery Cross

Land of the Fiery Cross

by Beth Bristow

About The Book

“Land of the Fiery Cross” is a historical book of World War I. There are two countries involved; Great Britain, specifically Scotland on England’s northern shore and Germany, located in the central portion of Europe. In September 1902, British forces combined with the French military to confront the
German Army that intended to take over northern France and then cross the channel between France and Great Britain to gain possession of Ireland, England, Scotland, Cornwall, and Wales.

This was the beginning of a new kind of warfare. A fighting Scotsman wrote these words; “To you, from our falling hands, we throw the torch; it will be yours to hold high. If you break your promise to those of us who die, we will have a restless sleep. Poppies grow in Flanders field; they are red as our
heart’s blood that stains the ground. Do not let us die without reason! Let our blood stand for truth, justice, and the common man who populates the earth. Let us be remembered as men who stood firm for peace among nations! When peace was not attainable, we, the men of Belgium, France, Great Britain and
Serbia joined forces against Austria-Hungary and Germany. We may die; however, it will be with honor because we fight for our homeland and the people who live there. They are our kin; we fight to protect their right to life and freedom!”
