The purpose of my book is to present an accurate translation of the Bible that can be inspected by biblical translators that will prove conclusively that there are no anti-homosexual teachings in the Bible. There is no prohibition against same-sex love. The book is made to assure gay people that they are doing nothing wrong, and also to prove to ministers that whatever anti-gay doctrine they may have, is not supported by the Bible. I have sent my book to bishops and Cardinals in order to prove that point. Included in my book are letters from me and the secretariat of Doctrine of the Roman Catholic Church in America, where we debate the point.

My name is Ernest Louis Camisa. I am an only child, dyslexic, and gay. I was born in San Francisco on March 5, 1955, to a Salvadorian mother and a North Beach Italian father. I was brought up Catholic and went to catechism. The first thing that they taught in catechism where the stories from the Bible, then the 10 Commandments, which later on I found out that the church did not take too seriously. Later on, I started studying the Bible with friends. I found the Bible to be more reliable than the Catholic tradition, which sometimes contradicted what the Bible said. I found the Bible to be a definite source of morality, and comfort during a time when my parents were breaking up.
I also found that English translations of the Bible to be vague and inconsistent when compared to each other. The bottom line, I suspected that translations of the Bible were muddled down to conform to the doctrines of their churches.
I thought about becoming a priest but didn't because I wanted a sex life, and I didn't think I would pass seminary because of my dyslexia. I learn to read because of phonics when in the 60s they were mostly teaching site reading in elementary school. I had special tutors to teach me how to read.
It was in the 70s, during my community college years, that I finally got acquainted with the gay community and Dignity which is a gay Christian group in the Catholic tradition. I was lucky to find out that my church had anti-gay teachings at the same time that Fr. John James McNeil of the Society of Jesus came out with a book that categorically disproves the anti-gay doctrine of the church. They also ran into some fundamentalist Christians who showed me where I can get copies of the interlinear Bible from a Christian bookstore in the city.
From that time on fueled by my own curiosity, I started translating the Gospel of Matthew which has never been published and which I never completed. I only translated up to the eighth chapter. After that, I did this book on homosexuality in the Bible. After that upon request from people in the women's ordination movement, I did a translation of the Sunday readings of the Roman Catholic lectionary to get out all the sexist language that was not in the original text.
