When I think of extravagance, I think of something greatly beyond the expected. Not ordinary, expected, and not needed. Imprudent, lavish, and exceeding reasonable bounds. Extremely abundant, profuse, and exorbitant. I never thought I was worthy of God's love but when I learned about grace, I'm simply blown away. In every way, in every interaction with His world, God has lavished His extravagance. Not just day and night, but sun to nourish and warm His creation. Not just stars and moon to light the way, but direct the seasons. Not just creation of man and woman but eros and agape thus providing for progeny and governance. Selecting a man, carving out a nation to teach us obedient submission. Not just a disciple, but a child of God, a part of His blood bought family worldwide. Such elegance, such divinity, such love and sacrifice.
“However, as it is written: No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no man has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him” (1Cor. 2:9).
What I’m trying to say is, grace is the extravagance of God.
