What do you collect? If you grew up in the 60s and 70s, you are either into Star Wars, Marvel, or DC. Either way, you know you were hooked on reliving the adventure and thrill of your heroes. With what you collect, you buy movies, music, toys, and anything connected with these treasured moments. What you collect is part of a million—no, trillion—dollar industry that grabs your attraction.
Here begins the search on how we get caught up in a never-ending spending cycle as each decade unfolds and generation gets sucked into being duped and persuaded. This becomes the beginning of your spending habits. You are very much targeted, and many don’t care! I, too, get caught up in this friendship. The difference is I care and dare to ask why.
Why do we need to collect so much? So says I, your friendly neighborhood self-appointed baby boomer consumer advocate.
Terry Wayne Brownlee was born in Ottawa, Canada, on June 18, 1946. He dropped out of grade 10, yet, a few years later, he started taking courses to finish high school. Terry began making his movies in Super 8mm film in the 1970s—writing and starring in other people’s productions. He moved to Toronto in 1980 and got to work immediately. He finished grade 12 by taking many night school courses. He continued taking courses in George Brown College with 16mm film. He also took basic and advanced cooking. His longtime love for scuba diving made him take ice diving courses and go to Trinidad and Tobago, where he filmed underwater. He then got into collecting and selling toys. As a photographer and filmmaker, he’s now bringing out his films and videos digitized. He is now retired, still collecting, writing books, and taking on new challenges. He wrote his first book Baby, Boom, Boom—Baby, It’s You!
